V Bistro in Murphys California, Elegant Delight

In the charming boutique gold rush town of Murphys California is a delightful dining and wine tasting experience.

On our recent visit we relished in the elegant yet relaxed al fresco dining experience we savored at V Bistro. There patrons enjoy a relaxed European style bar, small gourmet plates, home made pastries and a full bar with elegant specialty drinks and coffee beverages.

Restauranteurs Michael and Melissa Ninos had envisioned creating a casual and upscale atmosphere that compliments their affluent restaurant next door. They wanted to create a “true neighborhood bar,” and they have succeeded.

The courtyard was our choice for seating on our visit and it could not have been lovelier. A fountain, vines, flowers and music all added to the ambiance. The place is so popular we ended up running into a friend from Sacramento over an hour and a half away and he joined us for some excellent local wines and small plates.

The blue cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon were unbeatable and paired beautifully with a 2010 Voignier Allegorie, from Murphys.

Our server, Craig McDonald was impeccable and offered great suggestions for pairings. He later suggested a 2010 Hatcher Estate Zinfandel also from Murphys to savor with the freshest and most delicious fish tacos. It was an older style Zin with light peppery notes and was a spectacular surprise.

But the grande finale was a 2007 Boyle MacDonald Cabernet Sauvignon married with the Lamb balls. It was melt-in-your-mouth sheer delight. The fruit is harvested in Napa and produced in Murphys’ neighbor, Douglas Flat. The pairing was an absolute pleasure to experience, infact the highlight of the evening.

All of the food was impeccable and presented in a pleasing fashion. Portions were just the right size to order several and share in the equisite flavors.

I had to try one cocktail and since I love and grow beets, I opted for the Beet Martini which was unforgettable and a pleasure to savor. I only hope I can make one half as good one day at home.

Murphys is one of the only places in the world where you can ski and wine taste in the same day. The quaint village is also known for its history, boutiques, dining, wineries, hiking, fishing, golfing and caverns all within a short drive.

On your next trip to Murphys or the Gold Country allow some time for an unrushed visit to V Bistro to get a true flavor of the area’s best wine and cuisine.
