Lake Tahoe’s True Dining Treasure

Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge has been a landmark on Lake Tahoe since the 1950’s because they’re the ultimate lakefront place to eat or stay. They are located right on the shores of Lake Tahoe’s west side. This summer marks their 35th anniversary.

As a young girl, my aunt owned a cabin at North Shore Tahoe and we had many happy times dining at Sunnyside. That was many years ago and I was glad to have the opportunity to dine there again.

May 23rd on a warm spring evening we arrived at 6PM. We were warmly greeted by the wait staff and were shown immediately to our table. What an incredible view of Lake Tahoe and the snowcapped mountains!

The restaurant sits right on the Lake. The atmosphere was bustling with many happy customers.

I started with a delicious glass of Cabernet. I have a wine glass at home that says “life’s too short to drink cheap wine,” and this was right up that ally. Then I had the roasted cauliflower soup with coconut broth, evoo and fresh herbs. The roasted cauliflower sat on top of this creamy soup.

This was followed by the main course of pistachio crusted fresh fish, asiago herb panko crust, lemon capper butter ruby
red wild rice, asparagus and butternut squash puree. The fish was very fresh and flaked easily apart. The tasty crust was crisp and crunchy.

My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich. It was made with pulled pork shoulder and pineapple sesame slaw in a brioche bun.
We finished with the sticky toffee pudding. I usually try to avoid desserts, but couldn’t resist sharing this one. Fortunately our waitress brought an extra spoon.

The service was friendly and efficient. They move so fast that they wear tennis shoes and shorts.

I would highly recommend Sunnyside. Next time we go I think we’ll stay at the Lodge as well.
